Digital Storytelling

Check out my example of Digital Storytelling using the Storykit App.
I teach 4th grade (FCAT Writing!) and this is a story that we use at the beginning of the year to help teach student how to form and write to a narrative prompt. I used Storykit app because I have a class set of iPads. When I shared the story I created I was hoping to have the link show the story in the Storykit app instead of a website. I tried to use the link on an iPad, but it brought me to a website.

My one concern was copyright. I wanted my students to either draw the pictures or use pictures on the internet. I was contemplating how to approach this dilemma with 4th graders. Thank you for the feedback.

  1. Hi Jamie,

Thanks for sharing your story and introducing many of us to the Storykit App. It seems that it would be a quicker way to implement digital story telling in my classroom than with the programs I have been using. It seems great because it presents in a logical progression and could even serve as a type of graphic organizer when reinforcing content.

I agree with your copyright concerns. I would have added sources for all of the pictures in my digital story example, but it would have taken forever. I believe that if the digital stories are only being shared in class, then they do not have to have sources listed. On the other hand, I also believe in teaching copyright and I do reinforce this in my class on many other projects. I am not sure that digital stories are the most effective activity for spending time focused on copyright.

  2. Jamie,
Too Cool! I need to look into using voiceover for narration. What a great idea. It brings the story to life. Yours is a true digital "story" not just a presentation. Awesome!
I really love the idea of having the students draw the picures. That adds another learning experience entirely.
    Great digital story!

  3. Jamie,

I think your DIgital Storytelling example is impressive. I like the way you add narration to it. Your concern about copyright is important, teacher should inform students about that at least give some knowledge about this topic not too deep.

    Excellent job1

  4. Jamie,

I was wondering how that app worked, because it was amongst the many I included in a blog. I like it. Its a great way for younger students to do digital storytelling and would of be great for my project instead of prezi; using prezi might be too complicated for the younger grades.

  5. Story kit...very cool. I have a friend (she teaches 8th grade LA, I teach 6th) who uses this...she loves it. I have always been a bit hesitant with using new technology. This class has taught me that it is ok to reach out. Seeing your sample makes it easy for me to want to try more.

Question...what do you do with those who say "I can't draw". I have a ton of those! When I do any kind of "art project" I always stress the fact that they are being graded on the content, not the actual drawing. Will this work?

    Nice job.
